Both Dundee United and Motherwell will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they lock horns at Tannadice Park in their second Matchday tie of the Championship Group on Saturday evening with kickoff at 17:00.
Dundee United did well in the first phase of the season to secure 44 points from 33 matches that saw them finish in the top half of the table. However, Tam Court’s side started the second phase of the season in the Championship Group on the back foot after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Hearts at home last Sunday.
They still fourth in the Champions Group with now 19 points adrift of the third-placed Hearts while are just one point above both Ross County and Motherwell in fifth and sixth respectively. Therefore, the Tangerine have no chance of finish third with just now just four games remaining to go, but they will want to keep their current position on the table and thus, a victory on Saturday is important to them.
United have not lost to Motherwell in their last four meetings at Tannadice Park, and they claimed a 2-0 victory last time the two met in the Premiership and should draw confidence from that.
Meanwhile a 2-2 draw against St Johnstone on the last day of the first phase saw Motherwell secure their place in the Championship Group, but they now head into the second match of the group in the last position following a 3-1 defeat to Rangers last Saturday.
With the league nearing its end Motherwell will be contesting for the fourth place with both Dundee United and Ross County, and currently only one point separate them and the fourth-place. Therefore a win on Saturday for Motherwell will also be vital for them, and will head into the match all guns blazing for the three points.
However, the Well have failed to win of their last 10 away matches in the Premiership and will need to put in more efforts to claim a win at the Tannadice Park, where their last lost 2-0.
