Drogheda United will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Sligo Rovers to United Park for their Ireland Premier Division Matchday 21 tie on Friday night with kickoff at 21:45 EAT.
Drogheda have made an inconsistent campaign in the Premier Division this season with the side recording five wins, six draws and eight defeats from their 19 games to collect 21 points that have left them sitting in the eight spot.
However, despite sitting one spot above the relegation zone, the Drogs will not be worried about being pulled into relegation battle now as they sit 10 points above the bottom two. But Kevin Doherty’s side has failed to win in their last two league matches, picking up back-to-back 1-1 draws with Bohemians and Derry City both at away.
They will now be looking to get their campaign back on track as they Sligo Rovers, although they have fallen to their visitors in the last three consecutive meetings in the Premier Division, and thus will need to at the best to get anything out of the clash.
Sligo Rovers haven’t had the best time in the Premier Division this season but they will be happy with their campaign so far, as the side has managed to collect 28 points from their 20 matches and they sit fifth in the league standings.
They claimed their seventh win of the season last time out as they beat Finn Harps 3-0 at home on Saturday. They have now won two and drawn one of their last three league matches and will be looking to extend the run on Friday.
Having already defeated Drogheda United twice this season with an aggregate of 6-2, Sligo Rovers should be confident of recording third win in the Friday’s clash.
