Dundalk will be looking to move closer to the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division when they make a trip to take on Drogheda United.
Drogheda United endured a tough start to the League of Ireland Premier Division season, as they picked up 13 points from the first 15 matches.
After four straight defeats left them close to the relegation zone, they managed to bounce back with a 3-1 victory over Finn Harps, before they made it two on the bounce as Ryan Brennan scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over league leaders Shamrock Rovers.
While they failed to continue a winning streak, Kevin Doherty’s side managed to extend an unbeaten run as they collected consecutive points from draws with Bohemians, Derry City and Sligo Rovers before travelling to St Patrick’s Athletic last time out where they lost 3-0.
While they have largely improved their position in recent weeks, Drogheda remain ten points and just one place above Finn Harps in the relegation playoff spot.
After geeting off the track early in the season, picking up just 15 points from their opening 11 matches, Dundalk have put themselves in the title race by winning eight of their last 10 games and drawing the other two.
A run of five consecutive wins, leading up to a crucial win over the league leaders, saw Dundalk race into second place and reduce the gap to Shamrock Rovers, before they had to settle for a point from a goalless draw with Shelbourne.
Stephen O’Donnell’s side then managed to make an immediate return to winning ways last time out, beating University College Dublin 3-0.
With Friday’s contest acting as one of their games in hand, Dundalk will be desperate to post a second successive win to cut the gap between themselves and Shamrock to seven points.
