Doncaster Rovers will lock horns with Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly as they continue with preparations for the 2021-22 campaign. The match schedules on Friday at the Keepmoat Stadium with kickoff at 21:00.
Doncaster are keen for a strong start following their disappointing 14-placed finish in League One last season and have already started building momentum during this summer as they have won three of their four warm-up fixtures so far.
Donny opened their preparations for the new season by thrashing Harrogate Town 5-0 then proceeded to harmer Rossington Main 4-0 before losing 2-0 to Bradford City last weekend. However, Doncaster bounced back to winning ways by running Wakefield rugged in a match that ended 6-0 on Tuesday.
Doncaster have also been busy in the transfer market with their newly appointed manager Richie Wellens who has brought in the likes of Tommy Rowe, Ro-Shaun Williams, Ben Close and Jordy Hiwula, all of whom joined the club on free transfers.
Richie Wellens’ side will take on Sheffield United in their next friendly before opening their campaign at home against AFC Wimbledon on August 7.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United opened their pre-season warm-up with a 1-0 defeat to a National League outfit York City last weekend. The Magpies couldn’t break their hosts despite Steve Bruce naming a strong squad with significant first-team appearances. Therefore, Newcastle have plenty to improve on ahead of the Friday’s clash.
The Magpies will take on Rotherham United, Burton Albion and Norwich City in the remaining pre-season friendlies before opening their new campaign at home against West Ham United on August 15.
