Colombia are looking to get back on winning ways on Tuesday when they host Paraguay at Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez in Barranquilla in the World Cup 2022 Qualifying.
The hosts have dropped to fifth spot and have had a relatively unremarkable qualifying campaign having won just three and drawn seven of their 13 matches. Colombia had tremendous wins against Peru and Chile before the back to back draws.
Colombia now are in a winless run of four matches and have managed to secure three points in the process. The Colombians fell 1-0 to Brazil on Thursday night with the 72nd minute Lucas Paqueta goal made the difference.
The Colombians now currently occupy the playoff place and it’s a dangerous place having the same points at tie with Chile and Uruguay and the points will be for grabs in this match to retain that position.
Paraguay also fell to defeat last time out to Chile having lost in a 1-0 result an own goal from the goalkeeper Antony Silva. The visitors had a relatively high spirit start to the campaign, collecting 11 points from their first nine games and lost just two.
Paraguay dropped in form lately and now come from losing in their last three matches. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s came in after the 2-0 defeat against Chile and the 4-0 defeat against Bolivia in October and the first game he managed ended in a defeat to hold the eighth position with 12 points.
Paraguay will be in need to change on the attacking end to provide scores having not scored a single goal in the last four qualification games.
