Both Clermont Foot and Nantes will be looking to bounce back when they lock horns at the Stade Gabriel Montpied in their Ligue 1 Matchday 30 tie on Sunday evening with kickoff at 16:00 EAT.
Clermont Foot were left empty-handed again in Ligue 1 as they went down 3-1 at Lens in their previous match prior to the international break. They have now failed to win any of their last four league matches suffering three consecutive defeats in the run.
Their struggle for form has seen them edge closer towards a relegation scrap as they now sit just a place and a point above the relegation-playoff spot and five adrift of the danger zone. Therefore, anything less than a victory on Sunday could leave them in the relegation-playoff spot with maybe just two points above the drop zone if Metz wins their match.
Meanwhile Nantes’ hopes for the European football next season have recently hit a rough patch as the Canaries have only won one of their last four Ligue 1 matches, which include the back-to-back defeats to Troyes and Lille.
The run has seen them drop into ninth in the standings while increasing the gap between themselves and Strasburg, who occupy the last European spot, increased to six points now. Also, they now sit just a point above the 11th-placed Montpelier, meaning they cannot afford anymore slip-ups as that could see them drop further down the table while weakening their push for European spots.
They will therefore be desperate to bounce back to winning ways, although hopes of success on Sunday could prove challenging, as Nantes have won only one of their last seven away games against newly-promoted teams in Ligue 1. But, they did beat Clermont 2-1 on home soil in October’s reverse fixture.
