Charlton Athletic will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Gillingham to The Valley for their League One in-hand match on Tuesday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Charlton were left empty-handed last time out as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Accrington Town last Saturday. Charlton have now failed to win in their last seven League One matches, picking up one draw while suffering six defeats in the run.
As a result Johnnie Jackson’s side have dropped into 17th, where they sit on 40 points collected from 36 matches and are now seven points above the relegation zone.
Therefore a couple of more poor results could leave them right in the relegation scrap something Johnnie Jackson will not want, and thus Charlton will head into the match guns blazing for the three points.
Meanwhile Gillingham have made a poor campaign this season with the side claiming 33 points from their 37 matches and they currently occupy the last spot of the relegation zone with eight matches remaining to end of the season.
However, Gillingham have been determined to salvage their season recently with seven points from their last four matches leaving them in 21st place level on points with both 20th-placed AFC Wimbledon and 19th-placed Fleetwood Town.
That means that Gillingham sit in relegation zone on goal difference and a win or draw could see them out of the danger zone. They will be therefore they also head into the match all guns blazing for the three points, making this a close and exciting encounter.
Gillingham however will fancy their chances as they are unbeaten against Charlton in their last four meetings, claiming two victories in the run, and the last time tie they visited The Valley, they came away with a 3-2 victory.
