Cardiff City will begin their EFL Cup campaign when they welcome Portsmouth to Cardiff City Stadium in their first round tie on Tuesday night.
Cardiff opened the new Championship campaign on a positive note as they claimed a narrow 1-0 home win over Norwich City, but they failed to build on the result as they fell to a 2-1 away defeat to Reading last Saturday.
They will now be keen to bounce back to winning ways on Tuesday as they seek to book a place in the next round of the EFL Cup and also build momentum and confidence ahead of their third Championship fixture against Birmingham on August 13.
Cardiff have not lost to Portsmouth in their last five encounters, picking up four victories in the process, and will be keen to extend the run on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth are still searching for their first win in the new League One campaign after drawing their opening two league games. A thrilling 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wed on the opening day was followed by 0-0draw against Lincoln on Saturday, and have now not won their last four matches across all competitions.
Danny Cowley’s side will now be looking to curb the run and bounce back on Tuesday as they seek to advance to the next round of the EFL Cup, and also build their confidence ahead of their third League One encounter at Cheltenham.
