Cagliari will desperately look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Verona at Sardegna Arena in their Serie A Matchday 35 tie on Saturday evening with kickoff at 16:00.
Cagliari have made poor and disappointing Serie A campaign with the club claiming just six victories from their 34 matches so far this season, while recording 10 draws and suffering 18 defeats in the process.
They continued their disappointing campaign last time out as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Genoa last weekend. Milan Badelj netted in the 89th minute to give his side vital three points while condemning the Rossoblu to their 18th defeat this season.
Walter Mazzarri’s side have now suffered six defeats in their last seven league matches, failing to score in four of the defeats, while only claiming a 1-0 victory against Sassuolo in the run. They currently sit 17th in the standings with three points above Genoa and Salernitana in the relegation zone.
That means they are safe from relegation for now, but face three vital final matches after the Verona visit against two fellow relegation battlers, the rejuvenated Salernitana and a doomed Venezia, and against Inter Milan who are in the title chase. Therefore, they need a confidence-boosting victory this weekend.
Meanwhile Hellas Verona have been inconsistent this season but have certainly made a better campaign as they have claimed 49 points from 34 games to sit ninth in the league standings, with five points above the 11th-placed Torino and seven points outside the European places.
With four matches still go it will take some effort for Verona to finish in the European places, but they will want to keep their top-half spot and thus will be looking for all three points here. Also, considering their final three games, the Gialloblu will need a confidence-boosting victory on Saturday.
The last time Verona and Cagliari locked horns they played out a 0-0 draw, but prior to that Verona had claimed two victories in their last three Serie A matches, and will fancy their chances here.
