Cagliari will be looking for their first win this season when they square off with Venezia in the seventh Serie A round at the Unipol Domus Stadium on Friday with kickoff at 21:45.
Both sides have endured a horrid start to the new campaign and are currently in the relegation zone with Cagliari being in the 19th spot with two points while Venezia are in the 18th with four points.
Cagliari find themselves in this situation as they are yet to record three points this season and have just managed two draws with four defeats although they will consider themselves unlucky to be winless so far despite producing a few decent performances. However, Walter Mazzar’s side problems seem to defensively as they have not posted any clean sheet and have conceded at least twice in each of their matches this season as well as they have thrown away the lead a few times including 3-2 defeat to Genoa.
Cagliari head into the match off the back of back-to-back defeats including a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Empoli, followed by the 2-0 away defeat last weekend. Cagliari are also in a poor form having won none of their last matches and thus, are desperate for a win coming into this match as the win will also see them out of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile Venezia haven’t been that better off despite registering a win and a draw against Torino as they too are an unconvincing having also recorded four defeats so far this season. However, Venezia are making a first appearance in Serie A since the 200/02 season, but I Lagunari have found it difficult to adopt to the topflight with their major problems being at the back as they failed to keep a clean sheet and have conceded at least twice in four of their last six matches.
Venezia head into the match off the back of a 1-1 draw against Torino in a match where Venezia couldn’t capitalize on their extra man advantage, also Paolo Zanetti’s side are in poor away form having lost three of their last four away matches. However, Venezia will head into the match with three points in mind as they look to stay out of the relegation zone.
