Fresh off draws in the league and in the Europa League, Napoli head to the Unipol Domus to face Cagliari on Monday.
Coach Walter Mazzarri has helped the hosts escape the relegation zone in recent weeks, while Napoli are heavily involved in the title race after a run of four victories from their last six Serie A matches.
Since enjoying a golden spell with Napoli between 2009 and 2013, Walter Mazzarri’s coaching career has experienced a spell of lows, but he is now rebuilding his reputation at Cagliari, who have lost only once in Serie A in 2022.
Having won three and drawn two since the winter break, only unbeaten Napoli and Juventus have lost fewer since the turn of the year, and such form finally lifted them out of the bottom three earlier this month.
While Cagliari’s away form is certainly taking a turn for the better, one of seven previous defeats came against Napoli in the reverse fixture in September, and are now seeking to improve their results at home.
Despite filled with disappointment having taken the lead on both occasions during their last week, Napoli emerged from two of their toughest matches of the season still much in the mix for honours.
Just days after their league encounter with Inter ended in a 1-1 draw, as Edin Dzeko equalised Lorenzo Insigne’s early penalty at Stadio Maradona, they headed to Camp Nou and picked up a similar result in the Europa League.
Luciano Spalletti’s side now make a trip to Sardinia, where they have won each of their last six league meetings with Cagliari.
Napoli are unbeaten in 22 of their last 23 matches against Gli Isolani in the Serie A, while keeping 12 clean sheets in the process, something Gli Azzurri have been particularly adept at doing this season.
Cagliari vs Napoli head to head
The pair have previously met on 43 occasions in all competitions, where Napoli have taken 21 victories while Cagliari have won 7, and they have drawn in 15. Cagliari have scored 39 goals and conceded 71. In their last five meetings, Napoli have won 3, Cagliari one with one draw.

Cagliari news
Former Napoli striker Leonardo Pavoletti has scored three goals in his last four league games for Cagliari, and will hope to lead the forward this week.
Matteo Lovato, Kevin Strootman and Nahitan Nandez are among several players ruled out by injury, while Alessandro Deiola returns to the bench from one-match suspension.
Napoli news
Napoli will be without Matteo Politano and Hirving Lozano through injury, with midfielders Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Stanislav Lobotka both set to be sidelined as well.
David Ospina should return in place of goalkeeper Alex Meret, while either Dries Mertens and Victor Osimhen are set to start up front on Monday.
Prediction and Odds
With a Europa League tie taking place later in the week, Napoli could be distracted in this game, but they should win here to continue the title race.
Some fresh legs in the starting XI and confidence from their recent results should help Gli Azzurri pick up a victory at Unipol Domus.
