Cagliari vs Fiorentina Match Analysis and Prediction

Cagliari will be hosting Firentina at the Unipol Domus on Sunday, as they will be hoping to pull themselves out of the relegation zone in Serie A.

The hosts enter this fixture off the back of two narrow defeats in the league and cup, while Fiorentina have had an excellent past 10 days, which has seen them win successive encounters and score 11 goals in the process.

After picking up victories from two clashes on their return from the winter break against Sampdoria and Bologna, Cagliari have been able to continue that revival over the past week.

Those results have been followed by back-to-back defeats at Roma in Serie A last weekend and at Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.

Despite a failure to advance to the quarter-finals of the cup being a disappointment for manager Walter Mazzarri, it does allow them to turn their full attention into their attempted survival in Serie A.

A victory on Sunday could lift Cagliari to safety going into the international break, while providing another boost to their confidence ahead of tough challenge at Atalanta upon return.

On the other hand, Fiorentina head to the Unipol Domus off the back of big victories over Napoli in the Coppa Italia, and Genoa in Serie A last weekend.

The 5-2 victory over Napoli after extra time was a thriller, and secured Fiorentina’s progression to the quarter-finals of the cup, while the 6-0 thumping of Genoa last Saturday was a sign of how far they have come this season.

Fiorentina come into the game sitting 8th in the table, level on points with Roma and Lazio above them in their pursuit of the European places.

A trip to a relegation-threatened side proves to be a good opportunity to put pressure on the teams above them in the table.

Cagliari’s recent upturn of form could give them confidence entering this contest, but their visitors should have more quality to see them off on Sunday. Fiorentina will enter this clash taking it as an opportunity to add more goals to their tally, and we back them to take the victory.
