Burton Albion vs Crewe Alexandra Match Analysis and Prediction

Burton Albion will be playing their first game after a three-week break from action when they welcome Crewe Alexandra.

While Burton Albion are still sitting at safety at the mid-table positions in the League One standings, Crewe have recently moved to within four points of getting out of the relegation zone with two wins from three matches.

Burton have been lacking momentum, having lost four of their last six fixtures in League One, and that has been prolonged with numerous cancellations throughout December.

The Brewers were on schedule to return from their coronavirus-enforced break earlier this week against Bolton Wanderers, but their opponents had their own outbreak.

In preparations for this match, assistant manager Dino Maamiria came out optimistically about how Burton could perform in the future fixtures, but they desperately need points on board as soon as possible.

They are currently 14 points off the playoffs with matches in hand, and their focus should be placed on ensuring they do not get dragged closer to the relegation zone.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s team were competitive at leaders Rotherham United last time out on December 11, only trailing 2-1 heading into the closing stsges before the Millers added a third within the last six minutes.

Crewe had a slow start to the season, and they seemed to be on a lost cause to League One survival, a consequense of winning just one of their opening 17 matches.

However, three victories from their last six outings has moved them back into contention to move outside of the bottom four.

They still have a lot of work if they want to remain in the division, with the break seemingly benefiting them, as Chris Porter’s form proving pivotal since November, with the 38-year-old veteran contributing three goals and two assists in seven away matches.

Burton Albion news

With Burton likely being without any issues relating to coronavirus, Hasselbaink may feel comfortable with naming the same team that played against Rotherham.

Forward Daniel Jebbison would be a different option in the final third, while Michael Mancienne is an alternative in defence or central midfield for the Saturday’s match.

Crewe Alexandra news

As for Crewe, Manager David Artell could hand a recall to Kanye Ramsey, who came off the substitutes’ bench in the midweek for just his second outing since October, with the Southampton loanee potentially replacing Rio Adebisi. However, fellow wing-back Callum Ainley could also drop out of the squad.

Prediction and Odds

Crewe will be entering this match with much-needed momentum, and with their efforts to move away from the relegation zone, they could give their opponents a tough game.

However, Burton are better placed in the standings, and they won in their last two league home matches. So, we see a draw or a home win.
