Both Brentford and Aston Villa will be looking to return to winning ways when the go toe-to-toe at the Brentford Community Stadium in their first Premier League action of 2022 on Sunday the 2^nd with kickoff at 17:00.

The past year will go down in history of Brentford following their promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 74 years. On top of that the Bees adapted well to life in the top-flight recording five wins, five draws and eight defeats to claim 20 points which have them occupying the 14^th spot with nine points above the relegation zone and just four outside the top-half.

However, Thomas Frank’s side will not be happy with the end of 2021 as the club ended the year with three consecutive defeats in the top-tier suffering defeats to Chelsea, Brighton and Manchester City.

Aston Villa have been on a resurgent ever since the appointment of Steven Gerrard as Villa’s new manager back in November. Villa have claimed four wins in their last seven matches under the Englishman a form that has seen them rise up the table into the 12^th spot and their main target this season will be finishing in the top-half.

However, Villa have been struggling for consistency and will head into the match on the back of 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at home on Boxing Day and Gerrard will be hoping to start the new year with a positive result that could leave them in the top-half.
