Botswana takes on Eswatini on Wednesday in the final group stage match of the ongoing COSAFA Cup at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium with kickoff at 16:00.
Both sides can still advance to the next round with Botswana in the third place and two matches remaining for them while Eswatini are currently in the driving spot with six points but with only this match remaining for them. With teams around them being with a match in hand, Eswatini will be disparate for a win coming into this match as they are just a win away from booking a spot in the last four.
Eswatini failed to get out the group stage in the last COSAFA Cup tournament but are just a step away from advancing to the semis this time around having kicked off their campaign all fired up with a 3-1 win over Lesotho but couldn’t get passed the hosts Bafana Bafana who beat them by 1-0 in their following match. Eswatini however, quickly got over their defeat and bounced back to win a 1-0 against Zambia on Saturday. The win put them on top the group A and they come into the tomorrow’s clash knowing that a win will confirm their place in the semifinals as they look to continue searching for their first ever COSAFA Cup title.
Botswana on the other hand as said earlier will have to face Zambia on Tuesday before facing Eswatini 24 hours later. Also as mentioned earlier Botswana are in the third place with three points and hence will need to win both of their remaining matches to secure a place in the last four.
Letang Kgengwenyane’s side began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to South Africa who hold the second position in Group A standings three points above Botswana. However, they managed to bounce back and displayed a much-improved performance in their following fixture where they beat Lesotho in a thrilling 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Tumisang Orebonye and a wonderful strike from Thatayaone Kgamanyane.
Botswana finished as runners-up in the 2019 COSAFA Cup tournament and they could use that and their 4-0 win against Lesotho as confidence boaster in the remaining matches as they look to win their first COFASA Cup title.
