Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal Match Analysis and Prediction

Borussia Dortmund will take on Villarreal on Friday in a pre-season firndly in Austria, as they continue their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.

Edin Terzic’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat to La Liga side Valencia in their previous pre-season match on Monday, while Villarreal claimed a 2-1 victory over Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.

BVB have now played four friendlies this summer, starting their preparations for the new season with a 3-1 victory over Luner SV on July 5 before defeating Dynamo Dresden and Verl in their next two.

However, Dortmund enter the contest off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Valencia, with Goncalo Guedes and Marcos Andre on the scoresheet for the La Liga side, while Marco Reus scored for the German outfit from the penalty spot in the 51st minute.

Die Borussen have two more friendlies this summer against Villarreal and Antalyaspor ahead of the Bundesliga opener at home to Bayer Leverkusen on August 6, but they will also be in action against 1860 Munich in the DFB-Pokal on July 29.

Meanwhile, Villarreal have played two friendlies this summer, opening their preparations for the new season with a 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon on July 14 before defeating PSV Eindhoven 2-1 last time out.

Unai Emery’s side will now take on Dortmund, Southampton, Fulham and Inter Milan in friendlies before kicking off their La Liga campaign away to Real Valladolid on August 13.

Villarreal finished seventh in La Liga last season, qualifying for the playoff round of the Europa Conference League, which has to go down as a disappointment considering that they made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2021-22.

They have been quiet during the summer transfer window, only welcoming Jose Luis Morales and Pepe Reina on free transfers since the end of last season.

Borussia Dortmund news

Borussia Dortmund’s new signing Sebastien Haller has a testicular tumour, so the centre-forward will be unavailable for selection while he undergoes treatment.

New signing Adeyemi could feature alongside Marco Reus and Thorgan Hazard in the attacking positions, while Youssoufa Moukoko is likely to be given the nod in the centre-forward position.

Villarreal news

New signing Jose Luis Morales featured off the bench against PSV Eindhoven, and he is now pushing for a spot in the starting XI.

Pau Torres continues to be linked with a summer exit but is expected to start this game, while Arnaut Danjuma could join Gerard Moreno in the final third of the field.

Prediction and Odds

As unpredictable as have been pre-season matches, we are expecting an entertaining game of football, and there is a likelihood of goals coming from either side.

Dortmund are further ahead in their preparations for the new season, but a talented Villarreal side should have enough to avoid defeat in the Friday’s friendly.
