Spezia will be looking to surpass their hosts in the Serie A standings as they travel to face Bologna on Monday night.
Bologna have lost most matches in Serie A since December, and they have now now just one of their last nine league matches after a 3-0 defeat against Lazio last time out.
The defeat at Stadio Olimpico means also means the the Rossoblu have failed to score in either of their last two games and have scored just twice in their last five.
Under manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, Bologna have not gone three games in a row without scoring in Serie A, and will avoid doing so on Monday given their defensive deficiencies.
Currently sitting 13th, seven points above the drop zone and now far from the European places, Mihajlovic’s side could even be set for a relegation battle if they cannot start winning soon.
In the last encounter between the two teams in the Serie A, Bologna took an away victory at Stadio Alberto Picco.
After receiving January’s ‘Manager of the Month’ award for his side’s upturn in form, Thiago Motta has since been struck by misfortune, drawing against Salernitana before a defeat on Monday.
Having gone four matches unbeaten before kickoff, including three staright wins against Milan, Genoa and Sampdoria, Spezia had not been beaten in the league since mid-December.
However, for the first time in their brief Serie A history, Spezia have now scored in eight consecutive games, while picking up 14 points in the process, with only Juventus, Lazio, Napoli and Milan having fared better over that period.
In their third straight Monday night contest, the Ligurians could now win their fifth away game of the season, more than they managed in the entire 2020-21 season, when they survived their debut in the Italian top tier.

Bologna news
Sinisa Mihajlovic will be forced to make two changes to the side that started against Lazio, as both defender Gary Medel and midfielder Mattias Svanberg must serve suspensions.
On-loan midfielder Michel Aebischer is favoured to replace Svanberg, but Mihajlovic could alternatively bring in Musa Barrow to a three-man forward line.

Full-back Kelvin Amian will miss out with a suspension, which allows Salver Ferrer to start, while Aimar Sher remains unavailable due to a hip injury.
