Fulham will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel to St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium on Wednesday to face Birmingham, who will be looking to move into the playoff positions, in the seventh Championship fixture with kickoff at 21:45.
Birmingham managed to return to winning ways when they beat Derby County 2-0 last Saturday at home with Scott Hogan and Jeremie Bela getting in on the scoresheet to hand the Blues the crucial three points.
Prior to the win the hosts were eliminated in the second round of the EFL League Cup by their Wednesday’s visitors following a 2-0 defeat on August 24 before drawing 1-1 with Barnsley in the fifth round of the Championship shortly before the international break.
Lee Bowyer has been successful in transforming the Blues as he managed to save their season avoiding relegation to the third tier and has been able to turn the club into genuine contenders for promotion. Now Lee’s side will head into the clash in an average form as they have won two, drawn two and suffered two defeats in their last six matches across all competitions.
However, Birmingham will be a motivated side as they come into the match looking for the three points that might see them on top of the league as despite being in the seventh spot in the Championship standings with 11 points, they are just three points adrift of the division leaders West Brom.
Meanwhile Fulham would have found themselves on top of the Championship standings had they overcome Blackpool at the weekend where their blistering form was brought to a halt following the disappointing 1-0 defeat.
Prior to the defeat Fulham came off a brilliant form as they had a five-match winning streak across all competitions with a goal difference of 14-2. The defeat also marked the first for Marco Silva’s side who have recorded four league wins and one draw so far leaving them in the second spot with 13 points.
Marco Silva will hope that his side will charge to quickly bounce back to winning ways as they aim to keep within touching distance of West Brom who sit in the top spot of the standings. Fulham will fancy their chances on Wednesday as Birmingham haven’t won any of their last three games against Fulham.
