Benin host Mozambique at the Stade de I’Amitie in Cotonou in their second round of Group L of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers on Wednesday.
Benin began their qualifying campaign on a back foot as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to group leaders and clear favorites Senegal. Liverpool man Sadio Mane bagged a hat trick for the reigning champions, while Junior Olaiton scored the consolation goal for Benin.
Benin have now lost three of their last six games across all competitions, claiming two victories and one draw, while they have failed to win any of their last three games in a row, suffering two defeats in the run. They will now be looking to return to winning ways as they seek to kick start their qualifying campaign.
Meanwhile, Mozambique held Rwanda to a 1-1 draw in their opening tie, with Stanely Ratifo scoring just two minutes after conceding the opener from Blaise Nishimwe. They have now failed to win any of their last three games across all competitions.
But, Chiquinho conde’s side will be looking to build on the draw as they seek to qualify for the AFCON finals for the first time since 2010.
