Fresh from a goal thrilling clash in Estonia Belgium who will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run in Group E will welcome their closest opponents in the group Czech Republic to the King Baudouin Stadium for their matchday five on Sunday with kickoff at 21:45.
Belgium bounced back from their Euro 2020 defeat with a commanding 5-2 win against Estonia in the WC qualifiers where the hosts goal-getter Mattias Kait shocked us all when he broke the deadlock against Belgium with only two minutes played. However, the Red Devils got a breakthrough through Hans Vanaken and Lukaku to end the first half 1-2. Lukaku’s stunner and his second then opened the scoring for the second half before Axel Witsel and substitute Thomas Foket made it 1-5 in the 76th minute. Erik Sorga came off the bench to net a memorable goal for the Estonians in the 84th which saw the game settle for a 2-5 win for Belgium.
The win saw Belgium maintain their top spot in Group E with 10 points and a +13 goal difference. Roberto Martinez’s side have scored 17 goals in the qualifiers and no any other team can better them but conceding two against Estonia should concern Martinez somewhat.
Meanwhile Czech Republic who are seeking to book a spot in the World Cup finals for the first time since 2006 cemented their second place in Group E following a 1-0 win against Belarus thanks to a first half goal from Antonin Barak.
Jaroslav Silhavy’s side sit in the second spot in the group’s standings with seven points and only four points above third placed Wales who have two matches in hand and thus the Czechs need to be keener from here on.
The visitors will be looking to maintain their current form as their have won two of their last three meetings and will be keen to keep the ball rolling.
