Belenenses vs Portimonense Match Analysis and Prediction

Belenenses will play host to Portimonense at the Estadio Nacional do Jamor in round 28 of the Primeira Liga on Saturday, as they will be looking for points that will kickstart their bid to move away from the bottom of the table.

The hosts are currently rooted to the bottom of the Primeira Liga standings and are winless in each of their last five games, while Portimonense will be desperate to record their first win of the year.

O Belem were involed in a share of the spoils for the third game in a row two Saturdays ago as they were held to a goalless draw by Santa Clara.

Franclim Carvalho’s side have now failed to win in any of their last five matches, losing two and claiming three draws in that period, while managing just one win in their last 11 matches.

Having picked up 18 points from 27 games, Belenenses remain at the basement of the Primiera Liga table, five points adrift of Arouca just outside the relegation zone.

Portimonense also continue to struggle for form as they went down to a 2-1 defeat against Braga when they met at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao last time out.

Goals from Francisco Moura and Yan Couto put Os Arcebispos two goals up inside the opening 22 minutes before David Carmo scored an own goal to give Portimonense a consolation goal.

Paulo Sergio’s side have now failed to win any of their last 13 matches across all commpetitions since the turn of the year, with their last victory coming on December 21, when they defeated Famalicao on penalties in the last 16 of the Taca de Portugal.

This poor run of results has seen Portimonense drop from the top half of the league standings to 11th on 29 points from 27 games.

Belenenses news

Belenenses will be without Nilton Varela after he picked up an injury in February’s game against Sporting Lisbon.

He is joined on the injury table by Thibang Phete who is sidelined with a groin problem, while Safira will be pushing for a return to the first XI for the  Saturday’s game.

Portimonense news

Portimonense will have to do with the absence of Ricardo Matos, who came off with an injury in the February’s game against Santa Clara.

Other than that, they have a clean bill of health and no suspension concerns, which gives Sergio the luxury of an almost full strength squad at his disposal.

Prediction and Odds

Portimonense enter the contest having failed to defeat Belenenses on the road in six consecutive games, and it could be difficult for them to overturn that record here.

Although Belenenses have also struggled for form, we predict they will be confident of picking up a win or a draw here.
