Belarus will be looking for their first win in this season’s UEAFA Nations League when they welcome Kazakhstan to Karadoede Stadium on Friday night.
Belarus opened the UEFA Nations League campaign on the wrong note as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Slovakia, before drawing 0-0 with Azerbaijan in the second fixture. They now sit third in Group 3 of League C level on one point with rock-bottom Azerbaijan.
While they will not be worried about a possible relegation now, a defeat for Belarus on Friday will see them fall eight points behind the group leaders, making it tricky for them to finish at the top and thus earning a promotion to League B. Therefore, Georgy Kondratyev’s side need a win to keep their promotion hopes alive.
They are coming up against a high-flying Kazakhstan, who have already won their opening two matches, beating Azerbaijan 2-0 before claiming a 1-0 victory over Slovakia. Slovakia sit 80 places above Kazakhstan in the FIFA world rankings.
They have now won all their last five games in a row including a 5-4 victory on penalties against Moldova in the in the preliminary qualifiers of the competition. They will now be looking to extend the run as they aim to extend their Group C3 lead and hopefully earn a promotion to the next League.
Their spirits will be high and they should be confident of claiming a third victory from three games, although they have failed to win against Belarus in their last five meetings suffering four defeats in the run.
