Belarus vs Azerbaijan Match Analysis and Prediction

Belarus and Azerbaijan will have an encounter in League C Group 3 of the UEFA Nations League on Monday seeking to bounce back from defeats on Friday.

Slovakia and Kazakhstan succeeded over the respective nations, piling up pressure on the two teams heading into the match that will be played in Novi Sad in Serbia.

Off the back of three successive wins, Belarus would have no doubt likely to have continuead their run with matches in front of their own supporters.

However, Russia’s military invasion of neighbouring Ukraine has ensured that they have had to move to a neutral venue, with the games in question being played behind closed doors.

The first of those matches took place on Friday, with Slovakia recording a 1-0 victory in Serbia, the decisive goal coming from Tomas Suslov just after the hour mark.

With the other so-called home games for Belarus taking place over the next week, Georgy Kondratyev has a major task on his hands to lift his side if they are to launch a surprise bid for promotion.

These two national teams last met in an international friendly almost a year ago, with Azerbaijan claiming a 2-1 victory on that occasion.

Azerbaijan have since failed to win a single game in 11 attempts, their two draws during that period coming against Republic of Ireland and Qatar.

In their three matches since the turn of the year, they have failed to score a single goal in fixtures against Malta, Latvia and Kazakhstan.

Although they reached half time level with Kazakhstan on Friday, a double from Abat Aymbetov soon after the break confirmed the win for the home team.

With successive home fixtures to come after this contest, De Basi may be content with a draw, but three points would move them into the mix for a surprise promotion.

Belarus news

Ivan Bakhar is likely to drop out of the starting lineup, with Artem Bykov and Andrey Solovey potentially being drafted into the squad in midfield and attack for Monday’s game.

Captain Evgeniy Yablonskiy was withdrawn during the second half against Slovakia, making his participation a doubt given the three-day turnaround.

Azerbaijan news

De Basi is likely to make changes to his Azerbaijan XI, with many of his attack-minded players at risk of dropping down to the substitutes’ bench.

Ramil Sheydayev is set to replace either Mahir Emreli or Renat Dadashov, while Dimitrij Nazarov appears to be a likely inclusion in a creative role.

Prediction and Odds

With the home advantage being taken away from Belarus, Azerbaijan will fancy their chances of prevailing on neutral grounds.

However, Belarus had put together three wins in a row before Friday’s defeat and will be feeling confident unlike their opponents. So we feel it will be a share of the spoils.
