Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday continue their preparations ahead of 2021-22 season campaign with a pre-season friendly on Saturday at the Barnsley FC Training Ground in South Yorkshire with kickoff at 14:00.
Barnsley finished fifth in the last Championship season but failed to advance to the top tier following their 2-1 defeat on aggregate to Swansea City in the semifinals of the Championship playoffs, meaning they get to enjoy another season in the second tier.
Now the Tykes are preparing and building towards their Championship opener on August 7 against Cardiff City at away when they take on Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow. This will be Barnsley’s second preseason friendly following their 2-1 victory over Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena on Wednesday in their first pre-season friendly.
Next Barnsley will take on Watford in their last pre-season match before opening their 2021-22 Championship campaign in Cardiff.
Meanwhile Sheffield Wednesday was relegated from the Championship last season having finished at bottom of the table with 41 points in 46 matches. However, the Owls will be aiming to bounce back at the first time of asking which is evident through their determined pre-season spirit.
Wednesday suffered an obvious 3-1 loss to Celtic in their first pre-season friendly but quickly bounced back recording a 2-0 win over Chester and the 1-0 win over Alfreton Town. The Owls will then take on West Brom, Wrexham and Port Vale in the remaining friendlies then take on Huddersfield Town in the first round of the EFL Cup early August before kickoff their League One campaign away to Charlton on August 7.
