Luton town will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Barnsley in their third Championship fixture on Tuesday at the Oakwell Ground with kickoff at 21:45.
Luton tested their first Championship defeat last time out to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and will be hoping to turn things around here. Luton finished in the 11th spot last season and following the return of Jones who previously guided them back to second tier, the ultimate aim for Hatters now will be to go further up as they look to improve in this campaign.
The Hatters began their 2021-22 Championship campaign with a strong 3-0 win over newly promoted Peterborough United and following their 3-0 defeat to Stevenage on Penalties last week means that Luton town are out of the EFL cup which will allow them to concentrate more on the league.
Luton will fancy their chances here since during the last 10 matches with Barnsley playing at home, Luton have won five times whereas Barnsley have won four times with one game ending in a draw and the goal difference is 16-15 in favor of Luton.
Meanwhile, the hosts, Barnsley had a good run last season finishing with 78 points in the fifth spot, which earned them a place in the promotion playoffs. However, the 1-0 home defeat to Swansea City in the first leg of the promotion semifinals meant that they faced a very tough test upon their trip to South Wales where they drew 1-1 on the day and losing 2-1 on aggregate.
Barnsley began their 2021-22 Championship campaign against Cardiff City with game ending 1-1. Marlon Pack opened the scoring for Cardiff City before Toby Sibbick drew Barnsley level in the second half.
Now Markus Schopp’s side head into the Tuesday’s match off the back of a 1-0 victory over Coventry City thanks to the first half goal from Dominik Frieser. However, the real hero of the match for Barnsley was the goalkeeper Bradley Collins who secured the result for his team following his last-minute penalty save from the visitors.
