In preparation for the 2021-22 campaign Barcelona are set to play against Segunda Division outfit Girona in a friendly pre-season match. This friendly encounter is scheduled to kickoff on 24th July 23, 2021 at 20:00 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
The previous meeting between the two teams took place in September last year and ended in a 3-1 win for Barcelona. Girona were out done by Lionel Messi’s brilliance on the day and will breathe a sigh of relief in the Argentine’s absence. This weekend might be the best chance for Girona if they stick to their attacking style of play.
Barcelona recorded a 4-0 win over Gimnastic in their first friendly of the summer on Wednesday; the La Liga champions are using these friendlies to prepare their young players for their opening match against Real Sociedad on 15th August.
Girona suffered a 0-2 defeat to Rayo Vallecano in the Segunda Division promotion playoffs earlier this year and will have to spend another season in the second division. However, they have improved over the past two years but will have their work cut out for them this weekend. Barcelona is the better team on paper and should be able to win this game.
