Palmeiras will be looking to extend their Brasileiro Sere A lead when they travel to Estadio da Ressacada to take on 11^th-placed Avai in their league round 14 tie on Sunday night.

The defeat ended their back-to-back victories in the league and will be looking to bounce back on Sunday as they seek to avoid being dragged near or into relegation zone. However, Eduardo Barroca’s side are up against the current league leaders Palmeiras, who have recorded a strong campaign so far, having only suffered one defeat from their 13 Brazilian top-flight games. They have picked up eight wins and four draws in the run, collecting 28 points which have them sitting three points in the clear of second-placed Corinthians.

However, Palmeiras head into the match off a disappointing and narrow 1-0 defeat to Sao Paulo in the last 16 of the Copa do Brasil at away last week. Prior to that, Abel Ferreira’s side had won all their last four top-flight games and they will be looking to put the defeat behind them and continue their strong form in the league.

Having won four of their last five games against Avai, Palmeiras should fancy their chances heading into the clash.
