Flamengo will be looking to pick up a fourth win in a row when they make a trip to the Estadio Aderbal Ramos da Silva to take on Avai on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the hosts will head into the contest looking to get one over their visitors, having failed to win their last five meetings since 2015.
Avai suffered a setback in the Brasileiro Serie A as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ceara when the sides last met on Wednesday.
In the contest at the Arena Castelao, Brazilian midfielder Vina became the hero for the hosts as he found the net right on the stroke of half time to hand them all three points.
Eduardo Barroca’s side had previously ended their four-game winless run on July 16 when they secured a 1-0 victory over Santos through a Guilherme Bissoli 10th-minute penalty.
They now return on their home turf where they are currently unbeaten in four of their last five matches, picking up two wins and two draws.
Meanwhile, Flamengo maintained their impressive run of form on home turf as they saw off Juventude 4-0 at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia last time out.
A Pedro brace and an 18th-minute from Everton Ribeiro put the hosts three goals ahead heading into the halftime, before substitute Lazaro closed the scoring with an 86th-minute goal.
Flamengo have now won each of their last six home matches, scoring 20 goals and conceding just once since June’s 2-1 defeat against Fortaleza, and they are currently seventh in the league standings, level on 27 points with eighth-placed Bragantino.
Dorival Junior’s side will now take on an opposing side who are winless in each of their last five meetings between the sides, managing two draws and losing three since a 2-1 victory in May 2015.
