Austria Vienna vs Lech Poznan Match Analysis and Prediction

Austria Vienna will be looking for their first win of the Europa Conference League Group C when they welcome Polish champions Lech Poznan to the Generali Arena on Thursday.

Despite picking up just one point from their opening four matches, the hosts still have a good chance of progressing to the knockout round.

The Violets have arguably faced their three toughest home matches of the season all in succession, taking on Red Bull Salzburg, Villarreal and Sturm Graz, and they have disappointingly lost all of them.

A 4-1 defeat to Lech Poznan in the reverse fixture was the starting point of a worrying run of form for the hosts, in which they have won just two of their last nine matches across all competitions.

Their goalless draw with Hapoel Be’er Sheva on matchday one remains their only point in the group so far, as the three defeats that followed have included some heavy ones.

That makes it all the more exceptional that they are still in contention to qualify, but a win on Thursday is a must as they aim to close the four point gap between themselves and Lech Poznan.

That looks a difficult task given Lech Poznan’s recent away record, as the visitors have lost just three of their last 20 away matches, but all three came in Europe against Villarreal, Vikingur and Qarabag.

With Villarreal a long way clear and already through as group winners, Lach Poznan are on their way to join them in the knockout rounds, but this European campaign has seemingly dented their domestic from so far this season.

The reigning Polish champions are down in seventh place, 10 points behind leaders Rakow Czestochowa, who do not have the same distraction as Lech given they were beaten in Europa Conference League qualifying in August.

Austria Vienna news

Nikola Dovedan started his first game for Austria Vienna against LASK at the weekend, but he is not registered in their Europa Conference League squad.

Florian Wustinger and Ziad El Sheiwi will both be out until 2023 as they recover from respective ACL injuries, and Muharem Huskovic will not play until after the World Cup.

Lech Poznan news

Former Leeds United man Barry Douglas will miss out for Lech Poznan, as he has not featured since picking up a first-half injury against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

As a result, Pedro Rebocho will continue to deputise at left-back, while an adductor issue has kept Bartosz Salamon out for much of the year.

Prediction and Odds

Neither side have had great joy in front of goal recently, and the reverse fixture was the only time Austria Vienna have scored in the group, but they lost heavily.

However, Lech Poznan will likely settle for a point here and hope Villarreal do them a favour against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
