Athletic Bilbao will look to quickly bounce back to winning ways in La Liga when they welcome Real Valladolid to San Mames Stadium for their Matchday 14 round on Tuesday night.
Bilbao suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Girona last Saturday with David Lopez and Ivan Martin getting the goals for Girona while Gorka Guruzeta’s effort only proved to be a consolation for Bilbao.
They were previously coming off a 1-0 home win over Villarreal, which is now their only win in their last six league games. The run has seen them drop from inside the top four to now seventh, three points off Betis in fourth.
Ernesto Valverde’s side will now be keen to bounce back on Tuesday and turn around their fortunes as they seek to avoid further drop in the league standings. They want to be included in the top four challenge conversations this season, but they need to get back on track first.
Meanwhile Real Valladolid have been punching above their weight this season, with the side now claiming 17 points from their 13 games and currently sit 10th in the league standings.
This is impressive for a newly-promoted side, which picked up their fifth win of the season at home to Elche last time out thanks to Javi Sanchez and Roque Mesa’s goals. They have now won three of their last four league matches, but all of them have come at home.
Pacheta’s side have been struggling on the road and are coming off back-to-back defeats at Espanyol (1-0) and Osasuna (2-0) in their last two away games. Therefore they will need to work on their away form if they are to come away with something from the Tuesday’s clash.
