Angola and Central African Republic will be starting their respective Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns with a meeting at Estadio 11 de Novembro on Wednesday.
The two national teams will be fighting for two automatic spots at the next year’s continental tournament alongside Ghana and Madagascar in Group E of the qualifiers.
Angola played out a goalless draw with the National Lightning of Equatorial Guinea in their last game on March 29 at Estadio Municipal de Obidos.
Both of the teams failed to find the breakthrough in what was a dull affair, which resulted in a share of the spoils for Pedro Goncalves’ side in Portugal.
However, that was another game without defeat for the Giant sable antelopes, who are now no their longest unbeaten streak since 2019.
They will now be facing the challenge of an opposing side against whom they have a mixed record, with either side picking up a victory each in the previous two meetings.
Having failed to feature in the last AFCON competition, Goncalves’ side will be looking to make corrections this time around and a good start would help set the tone.
Meanwhile, like their Wednesday’s opponents Angola, Central African Republic were also absent from the Africa Cup of Nations showpiece in Cameroon and still await their first-ever appearance at this level.
In their most recent participation, the Wild Beasts played out a goalless draw with Sudan on March 26 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Despite managing to end a four-game losing run, Raoul Savoy’s side are yet to come out on top in any oftheir last five matches.
With their last nine matches away from home resulting in just one win, Central African Republic have a lot of work to do as they look to get their qualifying journey up and running.
