Alianza Lima will be looking to claim their first win of this season’s Copa Libertdores when they play host to Fortaleza at the Estadio Nacional de Lima on Thursday.

The Peruvian outfit are currently at the bottom of Group F after picking up just one point from their four matches, while Fortaleza are in third place with four points to their name.

With six points separating them from the top two, a spot in the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores may be out of Alianza Lima’s reach.

However, Los Intimos will be targeting third spot in the group, which would guarantee them a place in the knockout rounds of the Copa Sudamericana.

After losing their opening three matches of the group stage, Carlos Bustos finally got a point on the board in their fourth match as they played out a 1-1 draw with Colo Colo. A goal from Wilmer Aguirre cancelled out Juan Martin Lucero’s opener, to ensure that the Peruvian champions remained three points behind Fortaleza.

The draw against Colo Colo has come in a four-game unbeaten run that Alianza Lima are currently enjoying, and they have a chance to secure a third successive victory in all competitions on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Fortaleza have struggled for wins in recent weeks, with their last five matches in all competitions producing just one victory.

Although the Brazilian outfit currently sit bottom of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A table, they are still in contention for a top-two finish in their Copa Libertadores group.

After losing their opening two group matches, Fortaleza have collected four points from their last two Copa Libertadores games, leaving them three points adrift of Colo Colo who occupy second place.

However, reaching the knockout stages could prove evasive, with their final two group matches taking place away from home.
