Algeria will look to extend their unbeaten run when they lock horns with Gambia on Saturday in a warm-up fixture ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 15:00.
Algeria are fresh from winning the FIFA Arab Cup two Saturdays ago. They claimed the title after seeing off arch-rivals Tunisia in a 2-0 win with both goals coming in the extra time having ended 0-0 in reguar time.
The win meant that Djamel Belmadi’s side is now unbeaten in 26 matches across all competitions since losing out 3-0 to Morocco in AFCON back in 2019. Belmandi’s men are also the reigning Champions of the African Cup Nations and they will continue their quest for more silverware in Cameroon next month, where they are drawn with Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone in Group E.
However, before that The Desert Foxes will take on Gambia in a warm up fixture and they will fancy their chances on Saturday as they are unbeaten in their last five meetings against Gambia.
Gambia on the other hand, are fresh from a 2-0 defeat to New Zealand in an International friendly back in November this year. The defeat marked their fourth defeat in their last five games with the team claiming only a 2-1 victory against South Sudan in the run.
The Scorpions will turn their attention to the African Cup of Nations tournament coming early next year, where they are grouped together with Mali, Mauritania and Tunisia in Group F. but before that they will look to test their strength against a side that is among the favorites to win the tournament Algeria in a warm-up fixture on New Year’s Eve.
A victory this weekend would help set the tone for doing the aforementioned and the West Africans will be keen to come out on top in this one.
