Ajax vs Napoli Match Analysis and Prediction

Napoli will be looking to extend their fine start to the Champions League group stage when they make the trip to Johan Cruijff Arena to take on Ajax on Tuesday.

The hosts have had a promosing start to the campaign so far, beating Rangers before losing to Liverpool at Anfield, while Napoli have defeated Liverpool before seeing off Rangers at Ibrox to gain maximum points.

In his debut season as Ajax manager, Alfred Schreuder has enjoyed a positive start to the campaign on both domestic and European fronts, with his side sitting second in the table after losing just one of their eight matches into the 2022-23 Eredivisie campaign.

Ajax are the joint-third highest scorers in this competition with five goals, while Mohammed Kudus and Steven Bergwijn have been particularly threatening in the final third with two goals and two assists respectively.

Schreuder’s side will be hoping to secure qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League, something they managed last season before going down to Benfica in the round of 16 under Erik ten Hag.

Napoli have made an impressive start to life in 2022-23 and currently sit top of both Serie A and Champions League Group A under Luciano Spalletti. They are unbeaten across all competitions this season and are presently one of the best attacking sides on the continent.

Gli Azzurri have scored seven goals from their two matches across the entire Champions League group stage campaign, which is the most out of any team participating in the competition.

Spalletti saw his side put up an impressive display on matchday one of the Champions League against Liverpool at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, before they continued their ruthless form away to Rangers at Ibrox, with a 3-0 victory through Matteo Politano, Giacomo Raspadori and Tanguy Ndombele.

Ajax news

Ajax will take to the pitch without Ahmetcan Kaplan for the Tuesday’s contest due to cruciate ligament damage, while Jorge Sanchez is out of contention through a knee issue.

Loanee Mohamed Ihattaren is a huge doubt for the contest due to fitness problems, with his timeframe for a return to action currently unknown.

Napoli news

Victor Osimhen may struggle to recover in time for the trip to Amsterdam as he battles a bicep femoris muscular injury.

Gianluca Gaetano remains a doubt for the matchday three contest due to coming into contact with a virus, but Spalletti otherwise has a number of players available to choose from.

Prediction and Odds

We are expecting both sides to create plenty of chances and to play an open game that could leave them susceptible to counter-attacks.

However, Napoli will manage to find their way through the Ajax defence due to their sheer quality in the final third, and we believe they will come away victorious.
