Both AC Milan and Napoli will be looking to return to winning ways when they go toe-to-toe in a classic Calcio fixture at San Siro on Sunday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Both sides made strong and impressive starts to Serie A with both going unbeaten in their opening 12 matches and were setting the pace for much of the first half of the season. However, both sides have faltered in recent weeks and appear to have lost some of the early steam to cede top spots.
Milan have won just two of their last six Serie A matches and are coming off a 1-1 draw against Udinese at away last weekend. The draw allowed their City rival Inter to go one point clear at the top of the standings.
With Atalanta putting pressure on the back and Inter showing no sighs of slowing down, Milan will need to put an end to their slump and claim all the three points on Sunday so they can retain their status in the rankings and also keep up with Inter.
Meanwhile Napoli made one of their best-ever Serie A start, with the club winning all their opening eight matches. However, now Napoli head into the match having won just one match of their last six and are coming off a three-match winless run including back-to-back defeats at home against Atalanta and the newly-promoted Empoli.
Luciano Spalletti’s side was on top of the table for most of the first half of the season, but their recent slump has seen them drop down to fourth with four points off the pace. They need to find their feet again as soon as possible if they are to get back into the mix for the title race.
