The Scudetto defender will face the current Serie A leaders when Napoli take on Inter at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to complete the program on Sunday.
The reign of current Serie A defending champions Walter Mazzarri could not have gotten off to a better start. They picked up three points in a tough away game against Atalanta, with a goal from a substitute late on giving them a 2-1 victory.
However, Napoli’s performances this season have sharply contrasted with Luciano Spalletti’s golden side, who ended a 33-year wait for the Scudetto with a huge eight-point gap to the current series leaders.
The southern Italian club will do everything they can to reduce the points gap further this weekend but to succeed, they must transform into the team they were last season.
As leaders of Serie A, Inter have been at their best this season, and it’s no wonder they have outscored 19 other teams with an impressive 32 points from their first 13 league games.
Simone Inzaghi’s side could not climb out of the standings in Serie A last weekend, having to settle for a 1-1 draw with second-placed Juventus, and were only slightly behind against the Turin club.
They maintained a two-point difference. The Nerazzurri have had an excellent season and have established themselves as favorites to win the league, but Sunday’s clash with the reigning champions will be a tough test of their strength and quality.
