Motherwell will host Hibernian in their opening fixture of the 2021-22 Scottish Premiership at the Fir Park on Sunday with kickoff at 18:30.
Motherwell had a rough and difficult campaign last season finishing the season in the relegation group at position eight with 45 points same as seventh-placed St Mirren and a point above ninth-placed Dundee United.
The Steelmen will be looking to improve on their performances this time around as they aim for a top six finish this campaign which evidently through their determined pre-preseason preparations as they topped their Scottish League Cup with nine points in four matches. Motherwell eased past Queen’s Park, Queen of the South and Annan Athletic to make it to nine points but couldn’t get past Airdrieonians. They will face Dundee in the next round of the competitions.
However, Graham Alexander’s side will shift their attention to a tough opening league game on Sunday against a side that is among those that will likely stand in their way and their hope of breaking into the top six.
Meanwhile Hibernian had an impressive season last year managing a top-three finish with 63 points behind the Scottish football giants Celtic in runners up position and Rangers as champions. Hibbs will be aiming to start their season with three points in their pursuit for another top-three finish with Jack Ross expecting his squad to carry the momentum their have built in the pre-season preparation to the Sunday’s clash.
Hibbs opened their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win against a Premier League side Arsenal in a summer friendly match followed by a 5-1 win on aggregate against FC Coloma in the Europa Conference League marking their first competitive win of this season. The victory saw them qualify for the final qualifying round against a Croatian side Rijeka.
However, for now Hibbs will turn their focus to their opening league match as they look to start on the front foot with a win to kickoff their campaign.
