Fleetwood Town and Leeds United will both continue their preparations for the 2021-22 campaigns in their respective Leagues when they lock horns on Friday at the Highbury Stadium with kickoff at 21:00.
Leeds united are facing four matches in five days and this will be their third match of the four. The Whites opened their pre-season with a 3-2 victory over National League North outfit Guiseley on Tuesday. Leeds Manager Marcelo Bielsa decided to field teenagers and under-23 players with Mark Jackson overseeing the clash as first team players were rested for the second pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday. The Wednesday’s clash ended in a 1-1 draw with substitute Conor McBride opening the scoring in 73rd minute for Blackburn before Pascal Struijk equalized in the 81st minute for Leeds.
The Whites will face Real Betis next on Saturday before finalizing their pre-season preparations against Ajax on August 4. They will take on Manchester United in their 2021-22 Premier League opener on August 14 and will be fascinating to see more new faces at Elland Road before traveling to Manchester with Junior Firpo and Jarck Harrisson already signing for the club.
Meanwhile Fleetwood Town finished 15th in League One last season and have had a busy summer in preparations for the next season with the team playing five matches since July 10, with three victories and two draws.
The Cod Army head into the Friday’s clash off the back of a moral boosting 2-1 win against a Championship side Huddersfield Town on Tuesday with Shayden Morris and Gerard Garner getting in on the scoresheet.
Fleetwood have two more friendlies remaining in their schedule, facing Chester and Wrexham before welcoming Portsmouth to Highbury for their 2021-22 League One opener on August 7.
Besides being busy with next season preparations, Fleetwood have also been busy in this summer’s transfer market as the club has seen some new signings arrive including Max Clark, Tom Clarke, Brad Halliday and Anthony Pilkington. Ryan Edmondson and Callum Morton also joined on loan deals from Leeds united and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
Fleetwood vs Leeds head to head
This will be second head to head match between both sides. The first match was back in August 2016 in the first round of the League Cup where it ended 2-2 after 120 minutes with Leeds eventually winning 5-4 on penalties.
